Fun facts for your Christmas stollen coffee table
Sitting at a heavenly laid Christmas stollen table, you can use these fun facts to brilliantly fill any gaps in conversation. Simply let your knowledge of our traditional Dresden pastry flow in.
A for AUGUST THE STRONG. Legendary “King of Saxony,” actually Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. He had the first giant stollen baked in 1730 on the occasion of the Zeithain pleasure camp. It weighed 1.8 tons.
B for BESTECK (cutlery). You definitely don’t need this to enjoy stollen, because Dresden stollen is the oldest Saxon finger food! Hands on, guys!
C for CHRISTUSKIND (Christ Child) in a white dress. With its typical white powdered sugar coating, Dresden stollen is a symbol of the Christ Child wrapped in swaddling clothes.
D for DIDSCHN. Saxon for “dip in coffee, tea, or cocoa.” You can do this, but you don’t have to, because Dresden stollen should never be dry.

H for HAPPY MARRIAGE. That’s what it’s called when the sultanas are added to the dough and married to it to form a single entity. Hallelujah!

J for JUBILEE. The Dresden Christmas stollen was first mentioned in a document in 1474 on an invoice from the Christian Bartolomai Hospital – exactly 550 years ago.
K for KEEP COOL and dry! The Striezel stays wonderfully fresh when stored at between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius in its original packaging.
L for lots of LOVE. Because that’s an essential ingredient! Otherwise, neither the stollen nor the festivities will be a success.
M for the MIDDLE. Cut the stollen in the middle and slice off pieces about 1 cm thick. Then push the two halves back together and put them in a bag. This will keep the stollen fresh for a long time and prevent it from drying out. If stored properly, a Dresden stollen can be enjoyed until Easter. That is, if it hasn’t been eaten by then…

Every year, all Dresden stollen bakers must pass a strict quality test with their stollen. Only if they pass this test are they allowed to use the golden stollen seal as a certificate of authenticity and seal of quality. Only this seal ennobles our original and makes it a Dresden Christmas stollen.
R for RIESENSTOLLEN (giant stollen). This is made every year for the Dresden Stollen Festival and is sold piece by piece for a good cause. This year, the festival will take place on December 7.
S for STOLLEN KNIFE. This knife is used to cut Dresden stollen in a traditional and stylish way. The knife is a replica of the large stollen knife that Augustus the Strong had made for his first giant stollen.
T for TABLE CULTURE. Celebrating Christmas together at a festively decorated table. For us, Dresden stollen is an indispensable part of any coffee table.
U for UNIQUE … are the Dresden stollen made by Dresden stollen bakers! Although there is a set basic recipe, all Dresden stollen bakers have their own family recipes, which make their stollen unique culinary delights!

Y YEAH! Stollen fans in America shout every year when they receive their package of traditional baked goods made in Germany.
Z for ZUSCHAUER (spectator) … In the Schaubackstube at the Striezelmarkt, you can watch how the legendary Striezel are made. And in some stollen bakeries, you can even try your hand at baking stollen yourself in a stollen baking course. A great experience with friends, family, or colleagues.
